Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) Information: History and Facilities
Sheremetyevo International Airport dates back to the late fifties, when construction began. Opened in the summer of 1959, Moscow's newest airport soon began international flights to Germany, along with many domestic passenger and cargo flights. By 1967, services had commenced to both Canada and Sweden.

Expansion was necessary by the late seventies and Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) proudly opened its second terminal in the spring of 1980. The new terminal arrived just in time for the Summer Olympics, hosted by Moscow just six months later, in July.

More recently, 2004 saw the arrival of a railway 7 km / 4 miles from Sheremetyevo Airport, connecting the Moscow's Savyolovsky Rail Terminal and also the nearby town Lobnya. By 2007, a railway station was built outside of Terminal 2, linking the airport with this route.

ATMs, bureaux de change and post offices are on hand in both terminals at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport, while a bank can be found in Terminal 2. A small selection of shops and eateries are on offer in both terminals, including a bookstore and an audio-video shop.

Other airport facilities include a business centre in Terminal 2, medical care, travel agencies, a pharmacy and a useful meeting point, should you need to meet colleagues, friends or family. The Novotel Moscow Sheremetyevo-2 Hotel is located on-site at Sheremetyevo Airport and provides extensive business and conference facilities, complementing those already available in Terminal 2.
